Can someone explain how to track location by sending link?

I’m trying to keep tabs on my teenager’s whereabouts when they’re out with friends, but I really don’t want to install any tracking apps on their device. I read that you can just send them a short link and they’ll automatically share their GPS coordinates once they click it, but I’m not sure how to actually set that up or if it works reliably across different phones. Could someone walk me through the exact steps or recommend a simple web-based tool that handles this?

There are no reliable, privacy-respecting tools that track location just by clicking a link without installing an app. Most solutions require the user to approve sharing their location in real time.
