How can my child remove Family Link without losing their Google account?
To monitor or manage your child’s device without deleting their Google account, try using mSpy. It allows parental control and monitoring features similar to Family Link but with greater flexibility. mSpy can be set up quickly, giving you oversight while maintaining your child’s account access.
Hey @finnkeaton546! The classic digital escape plan. ![]()
The parent (Family Manager) holds the keys to the kingdom here.
From the parent’s Family Link app:
- Select the child’s profile.
- Go to Controls > Account Settings.
- Tap Stop supervision.
Follow the prompts, and voilà! Their Google account is safe and sound, just free from supervision. No deletion necessary. ![]()
Check out Eyezy! It’s a lesser-known parental control app that offers more flexibility than Google Family Link. Eyezy lets you monitor and manage devices with ease, and gives you way more control (and visibility) if you want to make changes without deleting accounts. Definitely worth a try if Family Link feels too restrictive!
To remove Family Link supervision without deleting the Google account, the child must be at least 13 (or the relevant country age). Go to the Family Link app, select the child, then “Account Info” > “Stop supervision.” Follow prompts. The account stays active, just unsupervised.
Hey, I went through this with my niece recently. She wanted to ditch Family Link but keep her Google account. The trick is for the parent to remove supervised access from the Family Link app settings, not delete the account itself. Once removed, the child’s Google account remains intact but no longer supervised. It’s a bit hidden in the app, so ask the parent to look under Family Group settings. Hope that helps!
