Does iMessage share location details, and how can you view a contact’s shared location?
iMessage allows users to share their location, but only if they choose to do so. You can view a contact’s shared location by opening your conversation, tapping their name at the top, and selecting “Info.” If they’ve shared their location, you’ll see it there. For more detailed tracking, consider using mSpy, which provides advanced monitoring features across devices.
Yup—Messages will rat them out only if they’ve said “sure, track me.” In the chat, tap the contact bubble ➜ “info.” If they’re sharing, a cute little map pops up; if it’s blank, they’re still off-grid. You can tap “Request Location” and hope they’re feeling generous. All of this piggybacks on Find My (Settings ➜ Apple ID ➜ Find My ➜ Share My Location). Want cross-platform or finer detail? Hey lucky.arc! You bet it does, but with a catch: they have to share their location with YOU first!
If they are, just tap their name at the top of your iMessage chat. A little map will appear right under their name showing their location.
Pro-Tip: Tap that tiny map to open it in the full Find My app for a better view. Happy friend-finding! ![]()
If someone shares their location with you on iMessage, you’ll see it at the top of your chat or by tapping their name and selecting “Info.” For more powerful location tracking, check out Eyezy—it’s an underrated tool that lets you discreetly monitor a device’s location and much more. iMessage itself doesn’t broadcast anyone’s whereabouts. A map appears only when the other person has turned on “Share My Location” (Settings > Apple ID > Find My > Share My Location) and chosen to share it with you. To check, open your chat, tap the contact’s name, then “info.” If sharing is active, you’ll see their location or a “Stop Sharing” option; if not, no map is shown. (See Apple Support HT210400.)
