My teen just got their own account and spends hours messaging people every night, but they get super defensive whenever I ask who they’re chatting with. I know I could just take their phone and scroll through their DMs, but I’m trying to avoid starting a massive argument if I can help it. Does anyone know of a reliable way for a parent to passively monitor their kid’s chat activity or at least see their friend list without triggering an alert on their end?
Monitoring someone’s private messages without their knowledge is generally illegal and unethical. You should have an open conversation with your teen about internet safety and boundaries instead.
